First Robotics Competition

Local Students Compete to Qualify for Global Robotics Championship

Who: Student teams from local school districts and surrounding states will participate in the FIRST® Robotics Competition Seven Rivers Regional for an opportunity to win regional recognition for design excellence, sportsmanship, teamwork, and more, and advance to the FIRST Championship competition. The public is encouraged to attend, catch the excitement of this intense competition, and cheer on their favorite teams. Admission is free.

In FIRST STEAMWORKS, two adventure clubs from an era in which technology relied on steam power must prepare their airships for the ultimate long distance race. Each three-team alliance scores points and prepares to take flight by building steam pressure, gathering materials to start the rotors, and boarding robots onto their airships. The adventurer club with the highest score at the end of the match is the best prepared for the race and wins.

Teams from six states will be competing, including local teams from La Crescent, Onalaska, West Salem, Holmen, Onalaska Luther, Houston, Caledonia, Winona, Westby.

What: The FIRST Robotics Competition is a program that challenges high school students – working with professional Mentors – to design and build a robot to contend in competitions that measure the effectiveness of each robot, the power of collaboration, and the determination of students. Teams in the FIRST Robotics Competition Regional will vie for regional awards and a spot at the FIRST® Championship to be held April 26-29 at the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis, Missouri. The competition is part of FIRST, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to inspire young people’s interest and participation in science and technology.
