7 Rivers Alliance talks workforce retention

La Crosse, WI (WXOW) –

A talent recruitment meeting at the Myrick Park Center helped develop the foundation for the WISE Plan.

The WISE Plan, which stands for workforce innovation for a strong economy focuses on increases the amount of skilled employees.

Lisa Herr, CEO at 7 Rivers Alliance said they’ve had tremendous turn out at all of their meetings with businesses and community leaders coming together.

The sessions have helped those employers brainstorm ideas to retain the workforce in the region.

Childcare summit addresses needs

The 7 Rivers Alliance, a Tri-State partnership of Southwest Wisconsin, Southeast Minnesota, and Northeast Iowa is working to improve the economic opportunities in the region.

From March 21-23 they’re hosting community summits in La Crosse to address the three major challenges to workforce retention: affordable housing, connection to regional transportation systems, and affordable childcare.

“In the last five years, the number one occupation where we have lost the most workers is childcare. We have lost 454 childcare workers,” expressed Lisa Herr, 7 Rivers Alliance CEO.

Executive Director Herr Elected to WEDA Board

The 7 Rivers Alliance is honored to announce that Executive Director Lisa Herr has been elected to serve a three year term on the Wisconsin Economic Development Association Board of Directors.

“I am honored and gratified to join WEDA as a board member. The work of this organization aligns with my goals for advancing economic development throughout the state of Wisconsin,” said Herr.

Executive Director Herr Featured in WPR

Wisconsin Public Radio highlighted Dr. Lisa Herr, Executive Director of The 7 Rivers Alliance, in a newsmakers segment discussing economic development and the 2015 Business Survey results. Herr spoke alongside  Terry Whipple, the Executive Director of the Juneau County Economic Development Corporation.  Both Herr and Whipple express the importance of local economic success, as well as the importance of international relationships and trade connections to increase the vitality of the region.

“Wisconsin is a leader in so many areas, regionally and nationally. We have expertise and we are bind to offer that expertise in those other countries and to go in and establish our businesses, and develop, what I would consider, a win-win business relationship,” says Herr on the value of prioritizing international exchange.
