Each profile includes analysis of the current and projected population dynamics, the effect on the labor force, business development, county industries and employers, occupational patterns within industries, average wages, and total personal income. Year-in and year-out, Iowa ranks among the nation’s best states for cost of doing business. In fact, in three of the last five years, Iowa was number one in the country. Iowa’s industrial real estate costs are low – rental rates for Iowa industrial space are 15 percent below the national average, and industrial construction costs 18 percent lower. Iowa’s certified site program, designed and implemented by the nationally recognized site selection firm McCallum Sweeney Consulting (MSC), parallels a typical site location process. Once credentialed, an Iowa Certified Site has relevant site-related data and documentation accumulated and is designated as “business development-ready”. IEDA is proud to have four Iowa Certified Sites, designated in April 2014. Many other Iowa sites are currently working towards future certification.
