The SBDC center was opened in the early part of 1985 through the efforts of a tri-college group who worked together and in partnership with the Dubuque Area Chamber of Commerce, to address the need for entrepreneurial training and assistance. In October 2005 the SBDC in Northeast Iowa officially changed host institutions to the Northeast Iowa Community College in Calmar. The SBDC center remains physically located in downtown Dubuque where it is more accessible to the Northeast Iowa business community. It serves entrepreneurs and existing businesses in Allamakee, Clayton, Delaware, Dubuque and Winneshiek counties.

Through a partnership with Northeast Iowa Career Learning Link, your business can help high school students explore potential career pathways. Build awareness of careers by providing tours, speakers, guest teachers, job shadows, internships and mentors to schools and students. Recruit future workforce by connecting with schools and individual students. Provide professional development to teachers regarding careers in your industry through workshops and internships. Serve as a career mentor to a student interested in your field of work (program under development). Use the career experiences you provide to build awareness of available job opportunities with your business and potentially recruit your future workforce. To reserve an on-campus interview date, simply register and log-on to CareerConnection, Luther’s tool for posting internships, full-time position, and part-time, seasonal opportunities, and on-campus interviews. You may also schedule a company presentation or host an information table in a high student traffic area in the Dahl Centennial Union, the hub of campus activity. Whatever your needs, Luther College will be happy to accommodate you.
